Lesson One

Authority

1. (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV) "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, {17} so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

God has given us "all Scripture" needed so we "may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

2. (2 Peter 1:3 NIV) "His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness."

God has "given us everything we need for life and godliness."

3. (Hebrews 1:1-2 NIV) "In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, {2} but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe."

God has spoken to us through many prophets in the last days.

4. (John 12:47-48 NIV) "As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. {48} There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day."

The words of Jesus will judge us in the last days.

5. (John 12:47-48 NIV) "As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. {48} There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day."

We should not care about Jesus’ words.

You have completed Lesson One of the Good News For You Bible Study Online Course.  Please continue with Lesson Two at your earliest convenience. It is our prayer that you will come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

We must first believe that Jesus is the Son of God sent to redeem humankind from our sins. We must then repent of (stop doing) our sins. We then need to confess Christ as Lord and submit to Him by being baptized (immersed in water) for the forgiveness of our sins. With our baptism into Christ we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. We are thereby add to the church and expected to be faithful participants in the church.
