Lesson Five

God's Family

1. (Acts 16:29-33 NIV) "The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. {30} He then brought them out and asked, ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’ {31} They replied, ‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved--you and your household.’ {32} Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. {33} At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his family were baptized."

We need to believe in Jesus Christ and be baptized to be saved.

2. (1 Corinthians 12:12-13 NIV) "The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. {13} For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free--and we were all given the one Spirit to drink." and (1 Corinthians 12:27 NIV) "Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it."

When you are baptized and become a Christian you are a part of the body of Christ (the church).

3. (Ephesians 4:4-5 NIV) "There is one body and one Spirit-- just as you were called to one hope when you were called-- {5} one Lord, one faith, one baptism;"

There are many bodies (churches).

4. (Colossians 1:18 NIV) "And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy."

Jesus is the head of the church, which is His body.

5. Romans 12:5 (NIV) "so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." and Ephesians 5:30 (NIV) "for we are members of his body."

Christians are a part of His body (the church).

You have completed Lesson Five of the Good News For You Bible Study Online Course.  It is our prayer that you have come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.  If you desire further study please locate a church near you.

We must first believe that Jesus is the Son of God sent to redeem humankind from our sins. We must then repent of (stop doing) our sins. We then need to confess Christ as Lord and submit to Him by being baptized (immersed in water) for the forgiveness of our sins. With our baptism into Christ we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. We are thereby add to the church and expected to be faithful participants in the church.
