  • Pe Vav/Pe Yod are verbs that have a w or y in the Pe, first position.
  • General Characteristics
  • Pe Yod will quiesce when it has a prefix (it becomes a vowel the y becomes a yi   in the qal and a y "   in the hifil)
  • ba+fy qal perfect 3ms becomes ba+yiy qal imperfect 3ms
  • Pe Vav may, but does not always, drop out (this happens in the qal imperfect, qal imperative, and the qal infinitive construct)
  • Pe Vav reapears in the nifal, hifil, and hofal as a vowel
  • Nifal - ba$iyin becomes ba$On
  • Hifil - e.g. - byi$Oh
  • Hofal - ba$yfh becomes ba$Uh
  • |alfh acts like a Pe Vav/Pe Yod verb in the qal imperfect, qal imperative, and the qal infinitive construct
